Auburn benching Jeremy Johnson, Sean White named starting QB

Gus Malzahn has apparently seen enough poor play from quarterback Jeremy Johnson, as the Auburn coach named redshirt freshman Sean White the team's starter Tuesday.

"We're playing a very good Mississippi State team at home," Malzahn said. "I know our players and coaches are excited to come back for a night game at home.

"This isn't an emotional decision. You do what you feel like is best for the situation."

A loss by either team would likely end its hopes of competing for the SEC West title, as no team has won the division with two conference losses since LSU in 2007.

Saturday will be White's first career start for the Tigers. White came to Auburn as a coveted Florida prospect high school quarterback who began to really make waves in the recruiting world when he won the MVP of the Elite 11 quarterback competition in 2013.

White gave Johnson stiff competition for the starting role during spring camp, however Malzahn chose to name the more experienced Johnson as the starter following the Auburn's spring game.
