Canadian Olympic chief steps down amid sexual harassment inquiry

TORONTO —

Marcel Aubut has stepped down as president of the Canadian Olympic Committee while he is investigated for possible sexual harassment.

The committee received a complaint last week. The investigation concerns remarks Aubut ''allegedly made to a colleague.''

The inquiry is expected to be completed by mid-October. Francois Rolland, a former chief justice of the Quebec Superior Court, will lead the independent investigation.

The 67-year-old Aubut on Wednesday night says he asked to leave his duties and will fully cooperate with the investigation. He also left his post as chairman of the Canadian Olympic Foundation.

Aubut was CEO of the NHL's Quebec Nordiques until the team moved to Colorado in 1995. He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
