D.C. United 2 — Arabe Unido 0
United cinched top spot in Group H and sealed a spot in the quarterfinals with a comfortable victory at RFK Stadium. Ben Olsen’s side entered this game in need of a draw to secure safe passage into the last eight. Conor Doyle produced the perfect start when he rounded off a sweeping move with a low finish inside the opening minute. Jared Jeffrey doubled the advantage with a back-post header before the break to erase any doubts about United’s place atop the group. The home side saw out the match after the interval to claim a third victory in three attempts and render the visit to Montego Bay United next Tuesday relevant only for seeding purposes.
Santa Tecla 0 — Real Salt Lake 0
RSL joined Municipal at the top of Group G with a hard-fought draw in El Salvador. Jeff Cassar fielded a blended side in a bid to snatch a second straight away win and wrest firm control of the group. Both teams struggled to generate clear chances on the night with Santa Tecla marginally more threatening. Ricardo Ferreira saw his header ruled out for offside as the Salvadoran outfit attempted to take control of the proceedings. Javier Morales and Joao Plata entered the fray in the final 20 minutes, but their efforts were hindered when John Stertzer received a second booking after 79 minutes. Kyle Beckerman climbed off the bench to ensure RSL extended its CCL shutout streak to 526 minutes. The stalemate left RSL tied with Municipal on four points. RSL, however, has two home matches remaining, while Municipal has only one.
