Hoop dreams? Malkin’s dunk leaves a lot to be desired

Updated Sep 15, 2015 at 2:31p ET

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin is quite the athlete to be certain, but his basketball skills may come into question after he was seen executing a two-handed dunk recently.

While he made the basket, let's just say that the, ahem, vertical leap of the 6-foot-3 Russian likely isn't keeping Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James up at night.

In addition, we'll be kind in saying that the basketball hoop doesn't seem to be regulation height.

While his dunk doesn't do much for his reputation, Malkin did score points in joining veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar by personally handing out season-ticket packages to some Penguins fans. The 29-year-old Malkin also took the time to play basketball with three children of one of the season-ticket holders before tossing a verbal jab at his good friend.

"Gonch, this is not your sport," Malkin said, according to the team's official website.

While it's fair game to question Malkin on that topic as well, he certainly can get it done on the ice. The 2012 Hart Trophy recipient collected 28 goals and 42 assists in 2014-15 for the Penguins and looks for another big season with newcomer Phil Kessel joining the team.
