Kings lend a helping hand for those affected by California wildfires

Northern California has been hit hard by massive wildfires this summer, two of which are still blazing and, sadly, claiming lives. The Butte and Valley fires have burned over 140,000 combined acres, according to the state government. And thousands of people have been displaced, as the Valley fire alone has destroyed nearly 600 homes.

With the community in such pain, the Sacramento Kings are pitching in to help out — and they're asking for people in the area to lend a hand, too. The Kings have partnered with FOX40 and Raley's grocery stores to set up cash donation boxes in all 114 Raley's locations. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to help those in need, with half assisting the Red Cross in relief efforts and half going to fund food banks.

The donation boxes will be in stores starting today. You can also donate online at foodforfamilies.org or on the Raley's "Food for Families" Facebook page.
