ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. —

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings will not play again this season due to a tooth infection that required surgery.

Limited to 28 games this year because of left knee injuries, Jennings had been expected to return this season.

''It's been a tough year,'' Jennings said before Friday night's game against Baltimore. ''Can't go nowhere but up.''

Jennings had oral surgery this week, which included stitches. He has not played for the Rays since Aug. 25.
