SungWoo Lee is coming back to Kansas City.
The South Korean Royals superfan will be back in town next week for the debut of ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary "#BringBackSungWoo."
SungWoo, a devoted, long-suffering, long-distance follower of the team for over 20 years, traveled across the globe to Kansas City back in August 2014 to cheer on his team. He was embraced by Royals fans and players and became somewhat of a cult hero, made popular by social media. Filmmaker Josh Swade was inspired by SungWoo's story and brought him back to KC during the playoffs last October to film the documentary.
The film is 30 minutes long, and it will be shown on Grantland and ESPN.com on Oct. 7, according to The Kansas City Star, which notes the film will be shown for the first time on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at Regnier Extreme Screen at Union Station. Tickets are not available to the public.
With the Royals' magic number down to six, there's a good chance SungWoo will be in town to witness KC clinch a playoff spot in person.
