Seguin offers initial impressions of 3-on-3 OT after test run

One of the more interesting storylines at every NHL training camp this autumn will be how teams react to the new 3-on-3 overtime format. The Dallas Stars experimented with the new overtime style in a scrimmage Sunday, and it certainly helped generate offense as the Stars players scored two goals while playing 3-on-3.

That's good news for a scorer like Tyler Seguin, but he said offense will not be the main issue in adapting to the new style.

"There’s a lot of [space]," Seguin said to the Statesman. "I think the focus for us is how we’re going to defend it. We know we have a lot of skills and plays will be drawn up down the road. But, it’s going to be tricky to defend."

Seguin was one of the 3-on-3 scorers, and he added another tally during a 5-on-5 segment of the scrimmage. The 23-year-old scored 37 goals in each of his last two seasons with the Stars, but with more room to work with in overtime this year, he might hit the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career.
