Tavares, Isles to be regulars on Long Island Rail Road

Captain John Tavares admitted that the New York Islanders feel at home on the rails.

That's right, Tavares and his team eschewed conventional travel for a home game on Monday and hopped on the Long Island Rail Road to Brooklyn's Barclays Center for the Islanders' preseason tilt against the Philadelphia Flyers.

"We definitely all feel like Long Islanders now for sure," Tavares told Arthur Staple of Newsday. "The coaches drove in early this morning and it was a couple hours, so the train is the best option. It's a different experience we'll all enjoy, I think."

Tavares said the team will travel this route for every home game, although one must wonder how the Islanders will be treated by their fellow commuters if the club goes off the rails … in the standings.
