Texans send message to rookie WR Jaelen Strong

Two games into his NFL career, Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong has yet to see the field.

Strong, Houston's third-round pick in the 2015 draft, was active for the season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but didn't play a down.

A week later, the rookie was inactive in the Week 2 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

“He needs to practice better,” Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said, per the Houston Chronicle.

The former Arizona State standout caught eight passes for 73 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the preseason, but that production hasn't been enough to earn him any playing time thus far.

In contrast, fellow rookie Keith Mumphrey, a fifth-round pick, has seen time in both games as a receiver and punt returner.

O'Brien didn't offer specifics when asked by reporters to specify the areas of his game Strong needs to improve.

“Like everybody, just try to improve every day,” O'Brien said.
