Boone Speedway — in Boone, Iowa — has issued an apology after allegedly threatening to ban handicapped fans for life.
According to Des Moines television station WHO-TV, a track promoter threatened to indefinitely ban fans in wheelchairs if they didn't move to a designated handicapped area. The station spoke with 13-year-old Hanah Phillips — who uses a wheelchair and is a season-ticket holder — about the incident.
On Sunday, the track issued the following apology on Facebook, which read, "We want to sincerely apologize for the situation with Hanah and the way it was handled. We are not going to make any excuses for it but simply say we were wrong. We will make it right directly with her. Wheelchair accessible seating will be in place by the opening day of 2016."
