Whoops: Spurrier chose to attend award ceremony over meeting Chubb on visit

It certainly appears South Carolina could have used Nick Chubb this season and last, as the sophomore running back is clearly one of the best players at any position in the SEC. The Gamecocks pursued the Georgia native in recruiting, in fact Chubb visited Columbia twice, however both times Steve Spurrier wasn't there.

After missing each other the first time, a second visit was scheduled due to the fact the star running back didn't meet Spurrier, according to Dawg Nation.

So why didn't the two meet the second time around?

“I think he was getting some kind of award at Florida,” Chubb said

“I would’ve got to meet the head coach. That would’ve been great to know who I was gonna play for,” Chubb said. “But I probably would’ve come to Georgia.”

While Chubb admits he likely would have chosen to be a Bulldog, Spurrier and South Carolina was coming off three consecutive 11-win seasons at the time of Chubb's recruitment and was just as much of a threat to win the SEC as Georgia.

Not a good look for the Old Ball Coach, choosing an award over meeting a player of Chubb's caliber. After only receiving four carries against the Gamecocks in 2014, expect Chubb to do more to make Spurrier pay for his decision this weekend.
